Starting April 1, 2025, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new rules to enhance security and prevent fraudulent activities linked to UPI (Unified Payments Interface). According to these guidelines, if a mobile number linked to a bank account remains inactive for an extended period, UPI services associated with that number will be suspended. To implement this, NPCI has instructed the use of the Mobile Number Revocation List (MNRL) within its Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP).
Additionally, banks and UPI apps like Google Pay and PhonePe are now required to update mobile number records at least once a week. These changes aim to improve the overall security of digital transactions and reduce the risk of fraud. This will ensure that only active mobile numbers remain linked to UPI accounts, contributing to safer and more efficient digital payments.
