Nabarangpur, Oct 14 [UDN}: A zone-level school sports festival was organised at the playground of Government New Panchayat High School in Dabugam block of Nabarangpur district.
The event was held under the chairmanship of Headmaster Krushna Chandra Patra. Dongeriguda Sarpanch Ram Kumar Gond attended as the chief guest, while Additional Block Education Officer Santosh Kumar Sahu and Dabugam Regional Resource Centre Coordinator Prasanna Kumar Dandasena were present as guests of honour.
The guests were welcomed by girl students with flower bouquets and badges. Students also brought the sports torch to the venue, following which the chief guest and other dignitaries placed it at the ceremonial stage. The chief guest unfurled the sports flag, formally marking the inauguration of the event.
Addressing the gathering, the guests highlighted the importance of sports in maintaining physical fitness, health and agility among students.
The Dabugam sports zone comprises Dabugam and Junapani gram panchayats. Students from schools under these two panchayats participated in various sporting disciplines in the under-14 and under-17 categories. Competitions were organised in kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, cricket and other sports.
Students and teams securing first, second and third positions were selected for participation in the upcoming block-level school sports festival.
Nodal Sports Teacher Hemanta Kumar Samal, along with sports teachers Trinath Barik, Sukanti Sahu and Purohit Bagha, coordinated and conducted the competitions. Guide teachers accompanying students from their respective schools also extended their cooperation in successfully organising the event.
Similar zone-level school sports festivals are also being organised in Borigam, Bada Olama and Medana gram panchayats of Dabugam block.
