Bhadrak, Sept. 22 (UDN): At least 24 people were injured after two pilgrim buses collided on National Highway 16 near the Dhamra railway overbridge in Odisha’s Bhadrak district in the early hours of Monday.
The accident occurred at around 2:25 am, when a pilgrim bus carrying passengers from Hooghly in West Bengal to Puri reportedly crashed into another pilgrim bus near Dhamra.
Around 35 passengers were travelling in the bus involved in the collision. The impact left several passengers injured, with 10 reportedly sustaining critical injuries.
Fire Services Rescue Passengers
Following the accident, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Several passengers were safely evacuated from the damaged buses.
The injured were subsequently shifted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment. Medical teams attended to the injured, while those in critical condition were kept under close observation.
Police Probe Underway
Police personnel also reached the accident site and assisted in the rescue operation. Traffic movement in the area was managed as authorities cleared the accident site.
A probe has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the collision. Officials are also expected to ascertain whether factors such as driver fatigue, visibility or road conditions played a role in the early-morning accident.
