Bhubaneswar and nearby regions may experience thunderstorms accompanied by hail and lightning, with authorities urging residents to take necessary precautions and avoid open spaces during adverse weather conditions.

Bhubaneswar, June 5:: A trough line is currently active over Odisha and extending towards the east-central Bay of Bengal. Due to its impact, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely during the next 24 hours. Wind speeds may reach 60–70 kmph, and hailstorms may also occur, according to the Meteorological Centre.

The weather department has issued a Red Warning for both northern and southern Odisha. Kandhamal and Gajapati districts are expected to be the most severely affected.
Similarly, districts including Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Nayagarh are also likely to experience severe Kalbaisakhi storms. Wind speeds in these areas may range between 50–60 kmph.

Hailstorms are also expected in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore districts, for which the Meteorological Centre has issued an Orange Warning.
In addition, a Yellow Warning has been issued for 16 districts: Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, and Khordha.

The weather department has warned that Kalbaisakhi conditions may continue until the 5th of the month.
Meanwhile, weather experts stated that there is not enough moisture in the upper atmosphere, reducing the chances of very heavy Kalbaisakhi rainfall. They also predicted that temperatures are likely to remain below 40°C until the 7th.
On the other hand, experts said that the monsoon is unlikely to arrive before the 20th.
