Bhubaneswar, Oct 9 [UDN}:A Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Jan Sampark Padayatra was held at Tumsapalli Gram Panchayat under Korukonda block of Malkangiri district, with the party highlighting issues concerning Odisha’s interests, people’s rights and social security.
The padayatra was inaugurated by Manas Madkami, Malkangiri district BJD president, former MLA, State Vice-President of the Tribal Cell and senior party spokesperson. The programme focused on reaching out to people at the grassroots, listening to their grievances and highlighting what the BJD described as the gap between the promises of the BJP government and the situation on the ground.
A major highlight of the programme was the joining of more than 50 workers from the BJP and Congress in the BJD. Among those who joined were Ram Chandra Madi, Dilip Padiami, Padia Kabasi, Gopal Ray, Chandra Sekhar Ray, Sukumar Mistry and Bhabatosh Mandal, along with several others. They reportedly joined the regional party expressing support for the policies and ideology of the BJD and inspired by the governance of former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Addressing the gathering, Manas Madkami alleged that Odisha was passing through a difficult situation and criticised the BJP government over what he described as administrative failures and mismanagement. He claimed that ordinary people were not receiving adequate attention from the government despite its claim of being a “people’s government.”
Madkami further alleged that errors in school textbooks, declining revenue collection, inadequate utilisation of budgetary allocations and rising debt reflected shortcomings in governance. He questioned the government over the increasing debt burden while alleging that development activities were not progressing at the desired pace.
He said the BJD had remained close to the people because of its work and public-service-oriented approach and asserted that the party would continue to remain in the hearts of the people of Odisha.
Among those present at the Jan Sampark Padayatra were Biju Mahila State General Secretary Laxmi Priya Nayak; senior BJD leader and district general secretary Satya Panigrahi; district Minority Cell president Rajendra Khasla; district student wing president Subrat Kumar Das; senior leader Madan Khasla; Zilla Parishad member Bijay Laxmi Padiami; Korukonda block chairperson Jitu Burudi; Korukonda block president Trilochan Choudhury; Malkangiri block president Sarba Kumar Bisoi; Balimela NAC president Rajendra Kuldeep; and senior BJD leaders Dhanurjaya Hantal and Madhab Sabat, among others.
