Daringbadi-Bhubaneswar Bus Plunges Off Nayagarh Bypass, Over 40 Injured

Nayagarh, Aug. 18 (UDN): More than 40 passengers, including the driver, were injured after a private bus travelling from Daringbadi to Bhubaneswar met with a serious accident on the Nayagarh bypass in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident occurred at around 2 am when the bus, identified as Omm Shree Chakadola, reportedly lost control while travelling along the bypass. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged nearly 20 feet into a field before overturning.

Several passengers were briefly trapped inside the overturned bus. Following the crash, the front windshield was smashed, allowing passengers to crawl out and escape from the vehicle. Local residents and emergency responders subsequently helped rescue the injured.

The victims were rushed to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. According to reports, around 40 people sustained injuries, with at least three in critical condition. The critically injured passengers were later referred to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.

The exact cause of the accident remains unclear. Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding may have contributed to the crash, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.

Police have launched an investigation and are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, including how the bus lost control and plunged from the bypass.
