Puri, July 22 (UDN): Thousands of devotees are preparing to gather at the Gundicha Temple in Puri for the sacred Sandhya Darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra as the deities’ nine-day stay at their aunt’s abode nears completion.
The special darshan holds immense spiritual significance as it marks the final opportunity for devotees to seek blessings of the Holy Trinity at the Janmabedi before the deities begin their return journey during the Bahuda Yatra.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has put in place detailed arrangements to manage the expected rush of pilgrims. Special crowd control measures, security deployment, and regulated entry and exit routes have been planned to ensure a smooth and safe experience for devotees.
Devotees will be allowed entry through the Singhadwara and will have darshan from designated areas before exiting through the Nakachana Dwara. The administration has announced that public darshan will begin from the Bahara Katha (outer precincts) in the morning.
Following the darshan period, entry restrictions will be imposed to allow preparations for the Bahuda Pahandi, the ceremonial procession in which the deities will be taken back to their respective chariots for the return journey to the Shree Jagannath Temple.
The temple administration has also made arrangements for devotees to receive Adapa Abhada, the sacred Mahaprasad prepared during the deities’ stay at Gundicha Temple. Anand Bazar services will continue to remain available for pilgrims.
Preparations for the Bahuda Yatra have also intensified at Sharadhabali, with the traditional southward turning of the chariots completed after earlier delays caused by rainfall. The completion of the ritual marks an important step ahead of the return procession.
Sandhya Darshan remains one of the most revered events of the Rath Yatra festival, bringing together faith, tradition, and devotion as lakhs of pilgrims participate in the celebrations before the deities begin their journey back home.
