Nabarangpur,:Sept 24 [UDN}: A half-yearly district-level review meeting was held at the Nabarangpur district office to assess the progress of various programmes, projects and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) being implemented with the support of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
District Chief Agriculture Officer Mahesh Kumar Padhi, who attended the meeting as the chief guest, reviewed the activities and progress of various FPOs promoted with NABARD support. He stressed the need to increase agricultural production in Nabarangpur while giving greater emphasis to processing, value addition and improvement in the quality of agricultural produce.
Padhi also advised stakeholders to take coordinated measures to ensure better market access for farmers and help them secure higher returns from their produce.
The meeting was attended by Lead Bank Manager Gopal Krishna Panda, Deputy Director of Horticulture Subrat Mohanty, Senior Scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Umerkote, Dr Shashank Lenka, Sub-Divisional Information and Public Relations Officer Satya Narayan Pradhan, and Chief Executive Officer of Koraput District Central Cooperative Bank Aishwarya Ranjan Mohanty, among others.
FPO representatives and young entrepreneurial farmers present at the meeting were provided guidance on various aspects of agricultural business, market linkage and financial support. The participating institutions were urged to ensure effective grassroots-level implementation of NABARD-supported projects and development programmes so that their benefits reach farmers directly.
NABARD District Development Manager Bauribandhu Gochhayat coordinated the meeting and provided detailed information about various schemes, projects and development initiatives being implemented by NABARD in Nabarangpur district.
He highlighted the need to strengthen the business operations of FPOs, ensure remunerative prices for agricultural produce, establish stronger market linkages and improve their integration with the banking system. Farmers were also informed about government schemes and financial facilities available to support their agricultural and entrepreneurial activities.
The meeting reviewed the progress of NABARD programmes, performance of FPOs, marketing of agricultural produce, value addition, availability of credit facilities and measures aimed at increasing farmers’ income. Emphasis was placed on coordinated efforts among government departments and stakeholder institutions to further strengthen the agricultural sector and rural economy of Nabarangpur district.
