Heavy Rains Trigger Fish Rush in Nuapada

Nuapada, July 6 (UDN): Heavy rainfall has brought an unexpected opportunity for residents of Odisha’s Nuapada district, with a sudden surge in fish availability leading to prices dropping to just Rs 50 per kg in Komna town.

The increase in water flow following heavy rains has allowed various species of fish from the downstream areas of the Lower Indra Irrigation Project to move upstream through the Sundar River, making them easily accessible to local fishermen and residents.

The unusual rise in fish catch has drawn thousands of people to the riverbanks, creating a lively scene as locals gather to buy fresh fish at affordable prices. Fishermen have also benefited from the increased availability, which has boosted their daily catch.

Residents said the rare monsoon phenomenon has provided a welcome relief, allowing people to purchase fresh fish at significantly lower prices. The situation has turned into a local attraction, with many visiting the riverbanks to witness the unusual fishing activity.

Officials and locals continue to monitor the river conditions as the monsoon progresses.
