Jeypore,Aug 27 [UDN}:Under the influence of a low-pressure system, Koraput district has been experiencing continuous rainfall for the past several days, severely disrupting normal life across the region. The persistent rain has affected daily activities, transportation, local businesses and the livelihoods of people, particularly those dependent on daily wages and roadside vending.
Among the 14 blocks in the district, Semiliguda recorded the highest rainfall at 144.6 mm. Dasmantpur recorded 95 mm, followed by Borigumma with 86.4 mm, Kotpad with 77 mm, Jeypore with 76.8 mm, Koraput with 71.8 mm, and Laxmipur with 67.6 mm of rainfall.
The district as a whole recorded a total of 968.2 mm of rainfall, with the average rainfall standing at 69.16 mm.
The prolonged rainfall has brought mixed consequences for different sections of society. While the rain has provided considerable relief to farmers and improved prospects for agricultural activities, it has created serious difficulties for daily-wage labourers and small traders who depend on roadside temporary stalls for their livelihood. With people staying indoors and movement being affected, business activity in local markets and shops has also witnessed a decline.
Residents have expressed concern that if the rainfall continues for the next few days, the situation could worsen further and have a greater impact on normal public life. Authorities and residents are closely monitoring the situation as the district continues to receive rainfall under the influence of the prevailing low-pressure system.
