Bhubaneswar, Aug. 6 (UDN): Odisha has expanded its cancer care network by introducing 91 additional treatment packages under the integrated Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)-Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), providing beneficiaries with access to a wider range of cashless cancer treatment services.
The newly approved packages have been brought under the Mukhyamantri Cancer Care Abhiyan, a state initiative aimed at strengthening cancer diagnosis and treatment while reducing the financial burden on patients and their families.
Following approval from the National Health Authority (NHA), the new packages have been incorporated into the scheme’s treatment package master as Odisha-specific benefits. With this addition, the total number of cancer treatment packages available under the integrated health scheme has increased to 545, while the overall treatment package count has risen from 2,163 to 2,254.
Officials said the expansion will improve access to specialised cancer care by covering more treatment procedures and ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive comprehensive medical support without incurring significant out-of-pocket expenses.
The integrated AB-PMJAY-GJAY was launched in Odisha on April 11, 2025, to provide cashless healthcare services to eligible families across empanelled hospitals. To further strengthen oncology services, the state later introduced the Mukhyamantri Cancer Care Abhiyan, backed by an allocation of ₹311 crore.
The programme was developed on the recommendations of medical experts, with a focus on early detection, timely intervention and multidisciplinary treatment for different types of cancer. Health officials believe the addition of the new treatment packages will further improve access to quality cancer care and reinforce Odisha’s efforts to build a stronger, patient-centric public healthcare system.
