Odisha Eyes Semiconductor Growth as CM Mohan Majhi Highlights Rs 23,600 Crore Investment Proposals Following Delhi Visit

Bhubaneswar: Sept 21 [UDN}:After completing a significant two-day visit to New Delhi, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi returned to Bhubaneswar and briefed the media in detail on the State’s economic growth, industrialisation and future development plans.

During his visit, the Chief Minister participated in a high-level conference of State Finance Ministers chaired by the Union Finance Minister. He presented Odisha’s priorities relating to agriculture, clean energy and economic development. He also participated in Semicon India 2026, where discussions with leading global technology companies and investors resulted in substantial investment proposals for the State.

According to the Chief Minister, investment proposals worth around ₹23,600 crore have emerged from Semicon India 2026 for Odisha. These proposed investments are expected to create more than 6,000 direct employment opportunities.

One of the major initiatives announced is the establishment of the ‘Odisha Silicon Valley’, a global semiconductor manufacturing hub at Naraj in Cuttack district. The proposed facility will be developed over approximately 870 acres of land, with the objective of strengthening Odisha’s position in the semiconductor and advanced technology ecosystem.

The State government has also received approval for a ₹452-crore project in partnership with IIT Bhubaneswar, reflecting the approach of moving from a traditional ‘mine economy’ towards a ‘mind economy’. The Odisha government will contribute ₹125 crore towards the project.

During the conference, the Chief Minister held one-to-one discussions with representatives of 18 companies. Letters of Intent were also signed with three organisations, including QuadQuantum, as part of efforts to attract investment and expand Odisha’s technology and semiconductor ecosystem.

The Chief Minister also held discussions with delegations from Japan, Sweden and Taiwan, apart from engaging with major global technology companies such as Intel, Applied Materials and Lam Research. The discussions focused on investment opportunities, advanced technologies and strengthening Odisha’s industrial capabilities.

The State Finance Ministers’ conference also focused on strengthening agricultural infrastructure. Particular emphasis was placed on agricultural logistics, cold-chain facilities and warehousing, with discussions on joint financing mechanisms involving the Centre and State governments.

Clean energy and the transition from conventional energy sources were another major focus area. The State emphasised the need for Viability Gap Funding (VGF) and stronger multilateral partnerships to accelerate investment in energy infrastructure and support Odisha’s transition towards clean energy.

The Chief Minister said the New Delhi engagements had opened new avenues for investment, technology and industrial development in Odisha. The government’s focus, he indicated, is not limited to attracting capital but also on creating employment, developing advanced infrastructure, strengthening human capital and positioning Odisha as a major destination for emerging industries.
