Odisha Government’s Chief Minister Kamadhenu Scheme Provides New Opportunities for Dairy Farmers and Promotes Sustainable Livestock Development

Bhubaneswar,  June 13:  The Chief Minister Kamadhenu Scheme (Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana) is a landmark and progressive initiative launched by the Government of Odisha to strengthen the livestock and dairy sector, enhance rural livelihoods, and empower cattle rearers across the state. The scheme has emerged as a significant step towards increasing milk production, improving the economic condition of dairy farmers, and promoting sustainable livestock development.

Over the last two years, the state government has extended financial assistance amounting to ₹326 crore under this scheme. This substantial investment reflects the government’s commitment to supporting cattle rearers and boosting the dairy industry in Odisha. The financial support has enabled beneficiaries to purchase high-yielding cattle, improve breeding practices, access better veterinary services, and adopt modern dairy farming techniques.

The scheme has already benefited more than 4 lakh cattle rearers and dairy farmers across the state. These beneficiaries include small and marginal farmers, women self-help group members, rural entrepreneurs, and traditional livestock keepers who depend on dairy farming as an important source of income. Through targeted assistance and support, the scheme has helped improve household earnings, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the rural economy.

As a result of these efforts, milk production in Odisha is steadily increasing. The enhanced availability of quality cattle, better animal healthcare facilities, and improved dairy management practices have contributed significantly to higher milk yields. This growth not only helps meet the state’s increasing demand for milk and dairy products but also reduces dependence on imports from other states.

The Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana is playing a crucial role in transforming Odisha’s dairy sector by encouraging scientific livestock rearing, increasing productivity, and ensuring better returns for farmers. The scheme aligns with the broader vision of rural development and agricultural diversification, making dairy farming a more profitable and sustainable occupation for thousands of families.

With continued government support and active participation from livestock farmers, the scheme is expected to further accelerate the growth of the dairy sector, strengthen food and nutritional security, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of Odisha. The remarkable achievements recorded during the past two years demonstrate the success of this visionary initiative in improving the lives of cattle rearers while driving growth in the state’s milk production and dairy economy.
