Bhubaneswar,June 9: Indian Railways has prepared a detailed blueprint to operationalize the Rayagada Railway Division. The new division will cover the districts of Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, and Kandhamal.
More than 600 railway officers and employees will work in Rayagada. The division is expected to accelerate the implementation and monitoring of major railway infrastructure projects across South Odisha and nearby regions, covering nearly 1,360 kilometers and involving investments of around ₹20,000 crore.
Hotels, schools, hospitals, shops, and service sectors are expected to benefit directly from the development. The establishment of railway colonies and administrative centers is likely to drive the overall growth of Rayagada.
The division is expected to handle more than 40 million tonnes (MT) of freight traffic. These terminals will not only support transportation activities but will also attract industrial clustering around cargo terminals, including warehouses, logistics firms, packaging units, and ancillary manufacturing industries.
Under the proposed railway division, several major railway projects are currently underway, including:
The 130 km Jeypore–Malkangiri new railway line project
The 38 km Jeypore–Nabarangpur line
The 116.21 km Junagarh–Nabarangpur line
The 173.61 km Malkangiri–Pandurangapuram via Bhadrachalam new railway line project
The 73.62 km Gunupur–Theruvali new railway line project
In addition, work is progressing on:
The Kottavalasa–Koraput doubling project (189.278 km)
Capacity enhancement of the Koraput–Singapur Road section
Infrastructure strengthening works on the Kirandul–Jagdalpur and Jagdalpur–Koraput sections
Apart from these, several important projects are also underway, including:
A flyover project at Singapur Road for traffic bypass management
Development of crossing stations at Sitapuram Vansadhara and Kashinagar in the Gunupur–Paralakhemundi section
Yard modernization work in the Similiguda–Karakavalasa section
These developments are expected to significantly strengthen railway connectivity and industrial growth in South Odisha and adjoining regions.
