State-Level International Literacy Day Celebration Organised in Koraput to Strengthen Awareness on Education and Literacy

Koraput,Sept 17 [UDN}: A state-level programme was organised at the auditorium of Koraput Medical College on the occasion of International Literacy Day. Sasmita Meleka attended the programme and addressed the gathering on the importance of literacy and the education system in Koraput district.

In her speech, she highlighted the crucial role of education and literacy in bringing social and economic transformation, particularly in tribal and rural areas. She said that literacy is not merely the ability to read and write but an important foundation for empowerment, awareness, employment opportunities and a better quality of life.

She also spoke about the progress made in the education sector in Koraput district and stressed the need to ensure that children from remote and tribal areas have equal access to quality education. Special attention, she said, should be given to reducing school dropouts, improving basic educational infrastructure, strengthening foundational learning and encouraging children to continue their studies.

The speaker emphasised that adult literacy and continuing education are equally important. Creating awareness among parents and communities can play a significant role in ensuring that every child attends school and every adult gets an opportunity to acquire basic literacy skills.

The programme also underlined the importance of collective efforts by the administration, teachers, students, self-help groups and local communities to achieve universal literacy. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening education and literacy initiatives and building a more educated and empowered Koraput district.
