Dabugaon, June 4: This year, the summer heat during the month of Baishakh has crossed extreme limits, and due to the impact of El Niño, temperatures have risen sharply. For the past one week, the daytime temperature has remained above 40 degrees Celsius. Despite the intense heatwave and unbearable humidity, a Home Guard from Dabugaon in Nabarangpur district has been seen prioritizing his duty and carrying out his responsibilities with dedication.
Y. Nageswara Rao, popularly known as “Naga,” has been serving as a Home Guard at Dabugaon Police Station for more than 10 years. He is especially known for managing traffic duty at the busy Tarini Temple Square in Dabugaon. Whether it is severe summer heat, rain, or winter, Naga continues to perform his traffic control duties sincerely.
Tarini Temple Square is one of the busiest public places in Dabugaon, making traffic management there a difficult task. However, Home Guard Naga efficiently controls the traffic with great skill and dedication. During duty hours, he never leaves his assigned post.
This year’s severe heatwave has made life extremely difficult, and due to the El Niño effect, temperatures in Dabugaon have stayed above 40 degrees Celsius for the past week. During this period, from 11 AM to 4 PM, roads, markets, and shops remain mostly deserted because of the scorching heat. Yet, Home Guard Naga continues to stand at Tarini Square for most of the day, diligently managing traffic without neglecting his duty.
In September 2024, while performing duty at Tarini Square, Naga was hit by a motorcycle whose rider fled the scene. He suffered serious injuries to his right leg. During treatment, doctors found that the bone in his right leg had fractured. Even today, though his leg has not fully recovered, Naga continues to perform his duties without negligence.
Whenever accidents occur during duty hours, he also helps arrange immediate medical assistance for the injured. Since Home Guard Naga is known as a calm, simple, and dedicated young man, he is highly respected in the area for his sincere service and commitment to duty.
