Wildlife Crime Suspected After Leopard Carcass Discovered in Odisha’s Ganjam

Bhubaneswar, July 7 (UDN): A suspected case of wildlife crime has come to light in Odisha’s Ganjam district after a leopard carcass was found hanging from a tree in the Kabisuryanagar area.

According to reports, the carcass was discovered near a crusher unit at the foothills close to Jarada village, under the jurisdiction of Kabisuryanagar police station. Preliminary suspicion suggests that the leopard may have died after being caught in a snare allegedly laid by poachers.

Following the information, teams from Kabisuryanagar Police and the Polasara Forest Division reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the leopard’s death and efforts are underway to identify those responsible.

The exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination, officials said.

Wildlife activists and local residents have expressed concern over the incident and urged authorities to take strict action against those involved under provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act.

The forest department is continuing its investigation to ensure accountability and prevent such incidents in the future.
