World Malaria Day Marked with Free Mega Health Camp at Balimela

Balimela, May 04:  On the occasion of World Malaria Day, a free mega medical camp was organized at Balimela in Malkangiri district.
The camp was conducted by the Uttam Malik Group of Institutions, under the leadership of Dr. Shiva Narayan Patra, in collaboration with Great Eastern Medical School and Hospital. It was held at the premises of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Balimela.
A wide range of medical services were provided, including treatment for eye, heart, general, bone, and vascular diseases. Patients also received free medicines, along with health check-ups such as blood pressure, sugar screening, 2D Echo, and ECG.
The program began with floral offerings to Lord Jagannath. Among the chief guests were Balimela Police Officer Ajit Singh Bariha and DGM S.K. Mohan from the medical institution.
The camp addressed a critical healthcare gap in Balimela, where despite having medical facilities, there is a shortage of doctors and quality treatment. In many cases, residents have to depend on distant hospitals in Malkangiri or neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
Around 350 patients were treated during the camp, with a significant number of elderly beneficiaries. A team of six doctors from the Srikakulam-based hospital provided free consultation and medicines.
This was the third such initiative in collaboration with the same hospital. Earlier, a cancer screening camp was organized in December, followed by a multi-specialty medical camp in January in partnership with another medical institution.
Chairman Dr. Uttam Malik stated that such initiatives will continue in the future. The residents of Balimela expressed gratitude for this much-needed healthcare service, calling it a boon for the region.
