Bhubaneswar, Aug 4 [UDN}: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has issued a warning that the El Niño phenomenon is expected to become more active from August, which could have a significant impact on global weather patterns. The international weather body has cautioned that the strengthening of El Niño conditions may influence rainfall distribution, temperature trends, and climate patterns across several regions of the world.
According to the WMO, increased El Niño activity could lead to above-normal temperatures in many parts of the globe, while also affecting monsoon behaviour and rainfall patterns in vulnerable regions. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the development as El Niño is known to disrupt normal atmospheric circulation and create extreme weather conditions.
The organization stated that changes associated with El Niño may result in irregular rainfall, prolonged dry spells in some areas, and increased chances of heatwaves in others. Countries dependent on seasonal rainfall, including those in Asia and other tropical regions, are being advised to remain alert and prepare for possible weather variations.
El Niño is a climate phenomenon that occurs when the surface waters of the central and eastern Pacific Ocean become warmer than normal, causing changes in global atmospheric circulation. Its effects can be felt thousands of kilometres away, influencing agriculture, water resources, and disaster management planning.
Weather agencies around the world are continuing to monitor ocean temperatures and atmospheric conditions to assess the strength and duration of the upcoming El Niño phase. The WMO has advised governments and communities to take necessary precautionary measures and strengthen climate preparedness strategies to reduce possible impacts.
