July 3: Restoration and repair works at the Gundicha Temple in Puri are on track for completion well ahead of the annual Rath Yatra, ensuring the shrine is fully prepared for the smooth conduct of rituals and the arrival of thousands of devotees, according to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
The restoration project includes structural repairs, replacement of damaged stone blocks, conservation of heritage features, and improvements to accessibility and visitor facilities. The initiative aims to preserve the temple’s architectural integrity while enhancing safety and convenience for pilgrims.
SJTA officials stated that the work is progressing as planned and will be completed before the commencement of Rath Yatra, allowing all religious ceremonies to take place without disruption.
The restoration reflects ongoing efforts to maintain the heritage significance of the Gundicha Temple while improving infrastructure to accommodate the large influx of devotees during one of Odisha’s most important religious festivals.
