Bhubaneswar, July 8 (UDN): Odisha is preparing for the introduction of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system on National Highways, a move aimed at making highway travel faster, smoother and more convenient for commuters.
The state government has begun arrangements to ensure eligible users receive exempted FASTags as part of the transition to the new technology-driven toll collection system. The initiative is being taken ahead of the nationwide rollout planned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The MLFF system will enable vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping, reducing delays and improving traffic flow. Advanced technologies, including RFID-based vehicle identification and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), will help automate toll processing.
Officials have been instructed to assist eligible users in obtaining exempt FASTags, allowing the system to identify vehicles that are exempt from toll payments. Other vehicle owners are also being encouraged to use FASTag Annual Passes for quicker and more efficient toll transactions.
The new system is expected to bring a major change in highway travel by replacing conventional toll plazas with a seamless digital tolling network.
