Young Blood Cancer Patient in Bhubaneswar Receives Critical Platelet Support Following Emergency Donation

Baripada,Oct 5 [UDN}:: In a touching example of humanity and selfless service, regular blood donor Dr. Niroj Kumar Pathal of Mayurbhanj travelled to Bhubaneswar to donate platelets for a young blood cancer patient in urgent need.

Twenty-three-year-old Hitesh Nath, who has been undergoing treatment for a serious blood cancer at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, urgently required AB-positive platelets during his treatment. After learning about the requirement, Dr. Niroj immediately stepped forward to help.

Hitesh has been battling the disease for a prolonged period and requires blood and platelet transfusions repeatedly as part of his treatment. He is the only son of Ratikanta Nath, who lost his wife during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, Ratikanta has been the primary source of support for his son and has been arranging blood and platelets with the help of social workers and voluntary blood donors.

Following doctors’ advice, when an urgent requirement for platelets arose, Ratikanta contacted Dr. Naresh Chandra Sahu, president of the Odisha Blood Donors Federation. Dr. Sahu immediately informed regular blood donor Dr. Niroj Kumar Pathal of Baripada about the requirement.

Responding promptly to the appeal, Dr. Pathal travelled from Baripada to Bhubaneswar by bus and donated the required platelets for Hitesh.

His prompt response and willingness to travel a long distance in an emergency have been appreciated as an inspiring example of voluntary blood donation and humanitarian service.
