Bhubaneswar, July 21 (UDN): The number of single-teacher schools in Odisha has increased by nearly 34 per cent in 2025-26, according to the latest UDISE+ report released by the Union Ministry of Education.
The state recorded 1,458 single-teacher schools during the academic year, up from 1,089 in 2024-25. These schools rely on one teacher to manage multiple grades along with administrative responsibilities.
Student enrolment in such schools also increased to 59,672, highlighting the need for stronger teaching support and better resource allocation, especially in rural and remote areas.
The report underlines the importance of addressing teacher availability challenges to ensure quality education and improved learning opportunities for students across Odisha.
