Malkangiri, Sept 24 [UDN}:: As many as 119 new teachers have been appointed under the District Welfare Department of Malkangiri following their successful performance in the examination conducted by the Odisha Sub-Ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC).
Of the newly appointed teachers, 32 are from Malkangiri district, while 87 teachers have come from other districts and have been appointed to serve in the district.
According to the District Welfare Department, the recruitment process had originally been initiated for 123 teachers. However, one candidate reportedly passed away, while three others secured appointments to higher posts. As a result, the final number of teachers appointed through the process stands at 119.
The newly recruited teachers will be deployed at 24 high schools in the district as well as at other educational institutions and locations where there is a requirement for teaching staff. The exact schools to which individual teachers will be posted will be announced during the upcoming appointment/recruitment camp, the District Welfare Officer informed.
The appointment of the new teachers is expected to provide some relief to the shortage of teaching staff in schools across Malkangiri. It is also expected to strengthen classroom teaching, improve the quality of education and contribute to better examination results among students.
The recruitment assumes significance for the district, where ensuring adequate teaching staff in schools, particularly in remote and tribal-dominated areas, remains important for improving access to quality education.
