Bhubaneswar,Aug 22 [UDN}:: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the President’s Medals on the occasion of Independence Day for distinguished, meritorious and courageous service. A total of 23 personnel from Odisha Police, Fire Services, Home Guards and the Prisons Department will receive the medals.
Among them, 17 are from the Police Department, two from the Prisons Department, and four from Fire Services and Home Guards. The medals will be presented on January 26, 2027, by the Governor and the Chief Minister.
Five Odisha police personnel have been selected for the President’s Medal for gallantry. They are Sub-Inspector Manmath Kumar Mahapatra, Havildar Nirakar Bhue, Commando Santosh Gurung, Commando Suman Pun and Commando Suresh Chandra Pug.
For distinguished service, two Odisha personnel have been selected—senior IPS officer Sanjeev Panda, who is currently being discussed as a possible candidate for the post of DGP, and DSP Smitarani Mohanty.
Ten police officers and personnel have also been selected for medals for meritorious service. They include DSP Manoranjan Paikaray, DSP Suresh Kumar Bal, Inspector Gitanjali Panda, Deputy Commandant Bhavesh Kumar Nayak, Assistant Commandant Paresh Kumar, Minati Nandan Pati, Constable Shyamali Biswas, Sub-Inspector Barun Kumar Naik, Havildar Subash Chandra Trinath Gaud, Constable Mustaq Ali Khan and Havildar Prashant Kumar Biswal, as listed in the announcement.
In the Fire Services, Assistant Station Officer Malay Kumar Mohanty has been selected for distinguished service. For meritorious service, Havildar Driver Nuel Kerketta, Assistant Station Officer Amitabh Raj and Home Guard Abhiram Sethi will receive medals.
From the Prisons Department, Chief Warder Pramod Kumar Swain and Warder Bishwanath Panda have been selected for medals for meritorious service. No officer or employee from the Prisons Department has been named for distinguished service this year.
