Papadahandi, Sept 23 [UDN}:The famous Garbarai Shiva Temple at Nuakot in Papadahandi block of Nabarangpur district was recently visited by Dr. Piyush Kumar Sahu, Superintendent of Anthropology under the Archaeology Department. Former Nabarangpur MP Parsuram Majhi was also present during the visit.
During his inspection, Dr. Sahu examined the temple’s ancient architectural features, historical significance and surrounding environment. Discussions were held on the need for proper protection and conservation of the historic Shaivite shrine in view of its archaeological and cultural importance.
Dr. Sahu reportedly said that the temple is believed to date back to around the 11th century and that several historical remnants and achievements associated with the rulers of the period may still remain hidden in the area. He said further research and investigation would be undertaken to understand the historical and archaeological importance of the site.
Garbarai Shiva Peetha is regarded locally as an important religious and historical site and attracts devotees and visitors from the surrounding areas. Following the visit by the Archaeology Department official, local residents expressed hope that concrete steps would be taken in the coming days for the preservation, conservation and development of the temple complex.
Several distinguished persons were present during the visit, including Central Advisory Board member of the Sahitya Akademi Manoj Tripathy, publisher Babita Das of Pakshighar, Kush Goud, Damu Pradhan, Sanjib Kumar Bisoi, Sudhanshu Sekhar Bisoi and temple priest Tularam Majhi.
