Bhubaneswar, July 4 {UDN}: The indigenous chicken breed found in Odisha’s Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts is known as the Aseel Chicken (Asil Chicken). It is one of India’s oldest native chicken breeds and is naturally reared in free-range environments. This breed is highly valued for its exceptional disease resistance, strong body structure, and fighting ability, making it a hardy and resilient variety. Due to its adaptability and low maintenance requirements, rearing Aseel chickens has become a profitable venture for poultry farmers.
The meat of this indigenous breed is now being marketed under the “Aseel Chicken” brand. At present, consumers in Bhubaneswar can purchase Aseel chicken meat through various OPOLFED retail counters. The initiative aims to promote Odisha’s native poultry breed, support local farmers, and provide customers with premium-quality, naturally raised chicken meat known for its distinctive taste and nutritional value.
