5th July 2025: The sacred town of Puri resonates with devotion and festivity as the divine siblings – Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Jagannath – prepare to return to their abode at Sri Mandir in the grand celebration of Bahuda Yatra, the return journey of the annual Rath Yatra.
In a spectacular display of devotion, Lord Balabhadra, affectionately known as Bada Thakura, was ceremoniously escorted to the Taladhwaja Ratha in a ‘Dhadi Pahandi’ procession. The rhythmic beats of traditional Odia instruments filled the air as devotees witnessed this deeply spiritual and culturally rich ritual. The slow, majestic movement of the deities amid chants and drumbeats evokes an atmosphere of divine grace and timeless tradition.

At Saradhabali, the three magnificently decorated chariots—Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, and Darpadalan—stand tall, ready for the return journey. Adorned with vibrant colors, sacred motifs, and floral decorations, the chariots embody centuries of craftsmanship and devotion.
Bahuda Yatra, meaning “the return journey,” marks the return of the deities from the Gundicha Temple to the Shri Jagannath Temple after their week-long stay. This event holds immense spiritual significance, symbolizing the cycle of life, homecoming, and the Lord’s deep connection with His devotees.
Thousands of pilgrims, locals, and tourists have gathered in Puri to witness this divine spectacle, making it not just a religious event, but a cultural phenomenon that unites people in faith and celebration.
The Odisha Government and local administration have made elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the festival, reaffirming Puri’s place as a beacon of India’s spiritual heritage.
