Cyber Awareness Programme Raises Public Awareness About Cybercrime, Online Scams, Digital Security and Safe Internet Practices

Rasulpur, Aug 19 [UDN}: A cyber awareness programme was organised by the Jajpur district police at Sai Nursing College near Satsang Vihar Chhak under Rasulpur block.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of the college’s Clinical Instructor, Biduhita Nayak. Kuakhia Police Station IIC Sushant Kumar Sethi attended the programme as the chief guest and spoke about cybercrime awareness.
He said cybercrime is spreading rapidly in society like a disease. The extensive use of online technology, unsafe use of mobile applications and misuse of artificial intelligence are among the major factors behind the rise in cybercrime. Although mobile apps provide various facilities at one’s fingertips, they must be used safely and responsibly to prevent cyber offences.
He said the police are organising cyber awareness programmes in various educational institutions to make young people aware and alert about cyber threats, as the younger generation is increasingly dependent on mobile phones.
Guest speakers Arpita Jena and AAR Sudhangshu Sekhar Rout said that people below 18 years of age are sometimes lured into sexual traps through mobile applications. Cases are being registered at police stations under the POCSO Act in such incidents. They also said that objectionable photographs of women and reputed persons are sometimes misused on social media for blackmail. Sharing OTPs during financial transactions is another major risk that can lead to cybercrime, they cautioned.
From the college, Debarchana Pratap gave the introductory remarks and introduced the guests. Arjana Biswal proposed the vote of thanks.
