Bhubaneswar, Oct 28 [UDN}: The Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of the possibility of widespread damage due to the approaching cyclone, which is forecast to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on the morning of October 28.
According to the IMD chief, the cyclone is expected to cross the coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam. At the time of landfall, wind speeds are likely to reach 125–135 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 150 kmph, potentially causing extensive damage to infrastructure, agriculture and transportation networks.
The powerful winds could uproot or break large trees, damage buildings and disrupt normal life across the affected areas. Rail, air and road transportation services are also likely to be affected, potentially resulting in delays, cancellations and interruptions to connectivity.
Odisha is also expected to experience strong winds, particularly in its southern districts. Wind speeds in southern Odisha could reach 60–80 kmph, while northern Odisha may experience winds of around 40–50 kmph.
The IMD’s warning highlights the potential threat to standing paddy crops and other agricultural produce, which could suffer significant damage due to strong winds and adverse weather conditions. Falling trees, damage to power infrastructure and disruptions to essential services are also possible.
Authorities and residents in the potentially affected regions have been urged to remain alert, follow official weather advisories and take necessary precautions to minimise the impact of the cyclone.
