Koraput, July 4: A strong demand is emerging for the introduction of a Vande Bharat Express train service between Bhubaneswar and Koraput, aimed at improving connectivity between the coastal and tribal regions of Odisha. The Damanjodi branch of Utkal Sammilani has formally urged the central and state governments, as well as the Ministry of Railways, to consider this route for inclusion in the Vande Bharat network.

In a recent memorandum submitted to authorities, the organization emphasized the need for high-speed rail connectivity to boost tourism, trade, and accessibility in the tribal-dominated districts of southern Odisha. The proposed train would benefit key regions such as Koraput, Damanjodi, Rayagada, and Jeypore, linking them directly to the state capital.

“Introducing a Vande Bharat train on this route will be a major step toward bridging regional imbalances in infrastructure and development,” a representative of Utkal Sammilani said. The demand also highlights the growing aspiration of people in remote areas for faster and more modern rail services.

Currently, rail travel between Bhubaneswar and Koraput takes over 12 hours, with limited express train options. A semi-high-speed service like Vande Bharat could significantly reduce travel time and improve overall passenger experience.

Local residents, student bodies, and business communities have welcomed the move, urging authorities to expedite feasibility studies and prioritize this route in upcoming railway development plans.

As Odisha continues to expand its railway infrastructure, the inclusion of interior districts like Koraput in flagship services such as Vande Bharat is being seen as both a developmental necessity and a long-awaited regional aspiration.
