Flood Victims to Receive Relief Through Direct Benefit Transfer as Authorities Prepare to Launch Breach Repair Work After Survey Reports

Bhubaneswar,  Aug 7 [UDN}:   The Odisha Government has announced that financial assistance for flood-affected families will be transferred directly to beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring a transparent, swift, and hassle-free distribution of relief funds. Under this mechanism, eligible beneficiaries will receive the assistance directly into their bank accounts, minimizing delays and eliminating the need for intermediaries.

The government further stated that the repair of embankment breaches and damaged flood protection structures will commence only after detailed damage assessment reports are submitted by the concerned district administrations and technical teams. These reports will evaluate the extent of destruction caused by the floods, identify vulnerable locations, and help authorities prioritize restoration work.

Based on the findings of these assessments, the government will prepare a comprehensive repair and rehabilitation plan to restore damaged infrastructure, strengthen embankments, and implement long-term flood mitigation measures. The objective is to ensure that reconstruction work is carried out efficiently, scientifically, and in a manner that reduces the risk of similar damage during future floods.
