The grassroots efforts were reported from Salepur in Cuttack district and Baliguda in Kandhamal district, where villagers came together to address long-standing connectivity challenges that had impacted their daily lives.

According to local residents, the absence of a proper motorable road had created persistent difficulties in accessing essential services such as healthcare, education, and nearby markets. During the monsoon season, the situation reportedly worsened, making travel even more difficult and sometimes unsafe.

Faced with continued delays in official road development, villagers collectively decided to contribute labour, resources, and coordination to initiate construction work themselves. Community members reportedly pooled funds and worked together in phases to develop a basic road to improve local connectivity.

The initiative reflects strong community solidarity and highlights the determination of rural residents to overcome infrastructure gaps through collective action. Locals said the effort has brought immediate relief, particularly in improving mobility within the villages and easing access to nearby roads and services.

While the project has been largely community-driven, residents continue to hope for formal government support to upgrade and maintain the road to more durable standards in the future.

Authorities are yet to issue an official response regarding the development.
