Ganjam, Sept 29 [UDN}:A meeting of the District Planning Committee was held to discuss the overall development and planning priorities of Ganjam district, under the chairmanship of Committee Chairman and Khallikote MLA Purnachandra Sethi.
During the meeting, an annual development plan proposal amounting to ₹8,011.89 crore for the financial year 2026-27 was approved. The proposed allocation focuses on major sectors considered crucial for the district’s infrastructure, economic growth and delivery of essential public services.
According to the approved proposal, ₹2,949.01 crore has been earmarked for the transport sector, reflecting the emphasis on strengthening roads, connectivity and other transportation-related infrastructure. The social services sector has been allocated ₹2,276.12 crore, covering various public welfare and essential service-related activities.
For rural development, the plan proposes an allocation of ₹1,101.50 crore, aimed at supporting development initiatives and improving infrastructure and services in rural areas. A further ₹765.23 crore has been proposed for irrigation and flood control, an important area for strengthening water-management infrastructure and addressing flood-related concerns.
The committee also held detailed discussions on a range of basic public services and development issues, including roads and communication infrastructure, drinking water supply, healthcare, education and other essential facilities. The discussions focused on development priorities and the requirements of different parts of the district.
The meeting was attended by the MPs from Berhampur and Aska, MLAs, the Chairperson of the Ganjam Zilla Parishad, the District Collector, senior district-level officials and other members of the District Planning Committee.
The approval of the ₹8,011.89-crore annual plan is expected to provide a structured framework for implementing development programmes across different sectors of Ganjam during 2026-27, with emphasis on infrastructure, social services, rural development, irrigation and other basic amenities.
