Bhubaneswar, June 13: The number of subsidized LPG cylinders available to beneficiaries under the Ujjwala scheme has been reduced from 9 to 4 per year. This means that families covered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will now be eligible for the additional subsidy on only four cylinders annually.
Earlier, PMUY beneficiaries were receiving subsidies on nine cylinders per year.
Amid the current gas supply crisis, the number of subsidized cylinders has been reduced. When the scheme was launched in 2016, beneficiaries were entitled to 12 subsidized cylinders annually. Last year, the Central Government reduced this number to 9 cylinders, and it has now been further cut to 4 cylinders per year.
