Nabarangpur, June 23 {UDN}: The district-level International Yoga Day was celebrated at the local Police Ground in Nabarangpur with great enthusiasm and participation from all sections of society.
The event was attended by Lok Sabha MP Balabhadra Majhi as the Chief Guest, who encouraged participants to adopt yoga as a regular part of their lives. Among the distinguished guests present were Nabarangpur MLA and Chairman of the District Planning Board Gouri Shankar Majhi, District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain, Additional District Magistrate (General) Dr. Pramod Kumar Prusti, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Biswajit Chandra Barman, Chief Development Officer of Zilla Parishad Biranchi Narayan Darwan, Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra, along with district-level officers, employees, students, intellectuals, representatives of various organizations, and media personnel.
Speaking on the occasion, the guests highlighted the significant role of yoga in achieving physical, mental, and spiritual well-being while leading a stress-free life. This year’s International Yoga Day was observed under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” They emphasized that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a pathway to a healthy, balanced, and harmonious lifestyle. Regular yoga practice helps reduce stress, improves flexibility and balance, and contributes to a disease-free and disciplined life.
At 7:00 AM, yoga instructors Krishna Chandra Pattnaik and Harish Behera demonstrated various yoga practices on the stage. Following their guidance, more than 700 registered yoga enthusiasts actively participated in the yoga session. After the practice session, all participants took a pledge marking the occasion of International Yoga Day.
During the event, prizes were distributed to winners of essay writing, speech, drawing, slogan writing, and poster-making competitions organized at the high school level in connection with Yoga Day celebrations. The speakers stressed that yoga should not be limited to a single day of observance but should become a daily habit for personal health and collective well-being.
The programme was organized by District Sports Officer Satyajit Ray, while Manoj Pattnaik conducted the proceedings.
Students from PM SHRI RCD High School, Municipal High School, Parents Pride School, Nabarangpur Public School, Techno Gurukul, Smart Gurukul, Saraswati Gyan Mandir, X-Board School, JELC, Theodore Public School, Vidyarthi College, and Nabarangpur College actively participated in the yoga session. Members of the Senior Citizens’ Association, Om Shanti Organization, District Cleaners’ Association, Civil Society groups, and many other citizens also joined the programme with great enthusiasm.
The celebration reflected the growing awareness of yoga as a powerful tool for promoting health, wellness, and healthy ageing across the community.
