Kotpad, June 30 {UDN}: Thousands of devotees gathered in large numbers to witness the sacred Gajanana Besha of the deities in Kotpad. As part of the traditional Snana Purnima rituals, the Chaturdha Murti—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Sudarshan—were ceremonially bathed with 108 sacred pots of fragrant, sanctified water amid the chanting of Vedic hymns and devotional prayers.
Following the holy bathing ceremony, the deities were adorned in the divine Gajanana (Elephant) Besha, one of the most revered and visually striking rituals in the Jagannath tradition. Beautifully decorated with elaborate ornaments and floral arrangements, the deities offered a mesmerizing sight to devotees, who queued for hours to receive their blessings.
The temple premises echoed with devotional songs, the sound of conch shells, bells, and continuous chants of “Jai Jagannath,” creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere. Devotees from Kotpad and nearby villages flocked to the temple to participate in the auspicious occasion and seek the blessings of the Holy Trinity.
Temple priests performed the rituals in accordance with age-old customs and traditions, while volunteers and local authorities ensured smooth crowd management and orderly darshan. The celebration reflected the region’s rich spiritual heritage and the unwavering faith of devotees, making the Gajanana Besha festival a memorable and sacred event for all who attended.
