Jharsuguda , May 16:— The second National Lok Adalat of the current year was organized in the premises of the District Court and Lakhanpur Court under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority and the Odisha State Legal Services Authority, Cuttack. The event was conducted under the chairmanship of District and Sessions Judge as well as Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, Prashant Kumar Nayak.
During the Lok Adalat, several pending cases from different courts were resolved through mutual settlement. These included:
2 Motor Accident Claims Tribunal cases settled for ₹1,50,000.
4 compoundable criminal cases.
5 cheque bounce cases settled for ₹12,47,730.
1 bank recovery case settled for ₹16,34,445.84.
3 matrimonial/family dispute cases (excluding divorce).
9 other civil cases.
261 miscellaneous cases.
3,193 revenue cases settled for ₹4,14,924.
In the pre-litigation category:
65 loan-related disputes of various banks and financial institutions were settled for ₹18,44,322.
1 matrimonial/family dispute case (excluding divorce) was resolved.
14 traffic challan-related cases of the Regional Transport Office were settled for ₹52,000.
12 cases of the Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services) were settled for ₹6,92,835.
3 electricity bill-related cases were settled for ₹77,131.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Sadashiva Jena resolved motor accident compensation cases through compromise settlements and directed insurance companies to pay compensation amounts.
Chairman of the Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), Ashwini Kumar Nayak, settled pre-litigation public utility service disputes.
Senior Civil Judge (Women’s Court) Pratyasha Kiran resolved matrimonial and family disputes excluding divorce matters through amicable settlement.
District and Sessions Judge Prashant Kumar Nayak, Senior Civil Judge Dr. Sandhya Rath, Senior Civil Judge (L.R.) Debashree Sahu, and Junior Civil Judge Monalisa Pradhan resolved other civil and money recovery cases through compromise settlements.
Similarly, SDJM Dr. Biswabhusan Nayak, Junior Civil Judge-cum-JMFC Lakhanpur Jaya Ray, Gramya Nyayalaya Judicial Officer Apanda Sahu, JMFC (Cognizance) Suprasi Sonali
Mahapatra, and Judicial Magistrate First Class Narmada Pradhan settled criminal, cheque bounce, and related cases amicably.
The Lok Adalat proceedings were coordinated by Chief Judicial Magistrate Smruti Ranjan Mahapatra, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Alok Mayee Pradhan, and Civil Court Registrar Swarnalata Nayak. Civil Judge (Probation) Swati Samal was also present.
Revenue cases were also resolved in various revenue courts across the district.
For effective settlement through compromise, 10 different Lok Adalat benches were constituted. Members included Dakeswar Pandey, Debarchan Thakur, Bhavani Shankar Dandsena, Dhamali Patel, Rupali Chatterjee, Manoj Suna, Ashok Kumar Pattajoshi, Satpal Singh, Anamika Nanda, Anita Soni, and Sanjay Pradhan.
Among others, members of the Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), Anandini Padhi and Suresh Chandra Patel, were also present.
