Mahaprasad Supply, Firewood Availability Discussed at Odisha Minister’s Meeting With Suara Nijog

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 19 (UDN): The Odisha government is examining measures to ensure uninterrupted availability of firewood for the preparation of Mahaprasad and improve its distribution at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan held discussions with representatives of the Suara Nijog at Lok Seva Bhawan on Friday, with several issues related to Mahaprasad preparation and distribution coming up for consideration.

Focus on Sustainable Firewood Supply

One of the key issues discussed was the need for a permanent mechanism to ensure adequate firewood for cooking Mahaprasad.

The meeting considered proposals to develop new forest areas on government land as well as land belonging to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration. The proposed plantations are aimed at creating a sustainable source of firewood and reducing the possibility of shortages in the future.

Steps for Better Mahaprasad Distribution

The availability of Mahaprasad for local residents was also discussed during the meeting.

Participants considered displaying a prescribed price list for Mahaprasad to provide greater transparency and clarity to devotees and visitors. The meeting also focused on improving the functioning of Anand Bazaar and making the distribution process more organised.

Officials and Suara Nijog representatives emphasised that any changes should improve convenience for devotees while maintaining the traditional practices and sanctity associated with Mahaprasad.

The meeting was attended by Shree Jagannath Temple Chief Administrator Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Law Department Additional Secretary Siba Prasad Mohapatra, Suara Nijog president Padmanabha Mahasuara and secretary Narayan Mahasuara.

Damodar Mahasuara, Baidyanath Mahasuara, Balabhadra Mahapatra and Chintamani Sahinayak, among others, were also present.

The discussions come as part of efforts to strengthen arrangements surrounding Mahaprasad preparation and distribution while preserving the established traditions of the Shree Jagannath Temple.
