Delhi, July 2 {UDN}: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, is scheduled to undertake a road inspection and test drive of the Visakhapatnam–Raipur Bharatmala Economic Corridor in July.
The road journey will commence from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and pass through several major towns in Koraput and Nabarangpur districts of Odisha, before connecting to Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. The 464-kilometre, six-lane economic corridor has been developed under the Bharatmala project and is expected to reduce travel time between Visakhapatnam and Raipur by nearly 10 hours, significantly improving road connectivity.
One of the most remarkable engineering features of the corridor is a 2.79-kilometre-long twin-tube tunnel near Kanker in Chhattisgarh. In Odisha, the project includes another 3.47-kilometre twin-tube tunnel between Baraj and Kandili, as well as a 2.87-kilometre twin-tube tunnel between Kuruli and Ampabali. In addition, a massive 1.8-kilometre-long viaduct has been constructed near Kandili, promising travelers a spectacular and thrilling driving experience through the hilly terrain.
Built using state-of-the-art engineering and modern construction technology, the Visakhapatnam–Raipur Economic Corridor is expected to become a landmark infrastructure project. It will not only boost trade, logistics, and industrial growth but also open up new opportunities for tourism and regional development across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.
Following the Union Minister’s inspection and successful road test, expectations are high that the highway will soon be opened for public traffic, marking a major milestone in improving connectivity and economic development in eastern and central India.
