Bhubaneswar, July 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued wet weather across Odisha over the next week, with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and spells of heavy rainfall expected in several parts of the state.
The IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a Yellow Warning for multiple districts, urging people to remain alert and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
Several coastal and interior districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.
Rainfall activity is expected to increase in the coming days, with heavy showers likely in districts such as Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, and Koraput. The weather department has advised residents in vulnerable areas to stay cautious.
The IMD said that although a deep depression over central India is weakening, active monsoon conditions will continue to bring rainfall across Odisha.
Several districts have already received heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, leading authorities to closely monitor weather conditions and prepare for possible impacts.
The weather department has also advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along the south Odisha coast due to rough sea conditions and strong winds.
People have been advised to follow official weather updates and remain prepared as the state experiences continued monsoon activity.
