Majhi announced that the stupa and its surrounding areas would receive extensive enhancements to highlight their historical and cultural importance. He reflected on the rich heritage of Odisha, asserting that the state’s history begins with Dhauli and the Kalinga War. Despite the devastation of the war, he emphasized that Dhauli stands as a symbol of moral victory for all humanity.

Constructed in 1972 by the Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangha, the Dhauli Shanti Stupa is recognized not only as a monument of peace but also as a testament to the values of compassion and friendship. The Chief Minister noted that Dhauli hill represents the bravery of the Kalinga people and serves as a pilgrimage site honoring the sacrifices of Odia heroes.

Majhi shared the story of Emperor Ashoka, who, after the Kalinga War in 261 BC, embraced Buddhism and vowed to promote peace. He highlighted that the establishment of the Peace Pagoda was supported by the Japanese government, marking it as a lasting symbol of harmony for over five decades.

Emphasizing Odisha’s crucial role in the propagation of Buddhism, Majhi stated that the state is often at the forefront of discussions about the religion. He pointed out that the influence of Buddhism in Odisha is unmatched in India, with roots tracing back to the 3rd century BC.

The Chief Minister also noted that while Dhauli is an icon of Buddhism, it has become deeply embedded in the cultural identity of Odisha, with local communities viewing it as an essential aspect of their heritage.

Prominent Buddhist monk Ting Okangi and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan were among the esteemed guests at the event, highlighting the significance of promoting peace and cultural understanding.

Through this comprehensive development plan, the Odisha government aims to preserve and celebrate the rich heritage of sites like Dhauli, ensuring they continue to inspire future generations.
