Bhubaneswar, Oct 8 [UDN}:Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling today chaired a high-level meeting at Kharavela Bhavan with the department secretary, Chief District Medical and Public Health Officers (CDM&PHOs) from all districts, and superintendents and deans of medical colleges.
The meeting focused on several important issues related to the state’s healthcare sector, including strengthening healthcare delivery, improving medical services and ensuring effective implementation of health programmes across districts.
A key highlight of the meeting was the launch of guidelines for the management of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) during pregnancy. The guidelines are aimed at providing a structured approach to the care and management of pregnant women affected by sickle cell disease, with a focus on timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, monitoring and reducing risks to both mothers and babies.
The initiative is particularly significant for Odisha, where sickle cell disease remains an important public-health concern, especially among vulnerable and tribal communities.
