Bhubaneswar, May 27: According to Rabi Narayan Naik, the Odisha Government is preparing to implement the long-awaited PESA Act in the state. He stated that a proposal related to the implementation of the Act will be placed before the upcoming State Cabinet for approval.
The Minister informed that before moving ahead with the implementation, discussions and consultations have already been held with 41 government departments as well as the Tribal Advisory Committee. The government is taking a coordinated approach to ensure that the provisions of the Act are effectively implemented in the Scheduled Areas of Odisha.
He further said that once the PESA Act comes into force, Gram Sabhas in Scheduled Areas will be significantly empowered. Local communities will get a stronger voice in matters related to land, water, forests, and natural resources. The law is expected to strengthen grassroots democracy and ensure greater participation of tribal communities in decision-making processes affecting their lives and livelihoods.
The implementation of the PESA Act is being seen as a major step towards protecting tribal rights, preserving traditional governance systems, and promoting inclusive rural development in Odisha. It is also expected to improve transparency and accountability in local administration while safeguarding the interests of indigenous communities.
