Odisha Reviews Kendu Leaf Operations, Focus on Skill Development and Jobs

Bhubaneswar, June 26 (UDN): The Odisha government on Tuesday reviewed the state’s Kendu Leaf operations at a meeting held in Bhubaneswar, focusing on improving efficiency, boosting productivity, and creating new livelihood opportunities through skill development.

The review meeting, titled Kendu Leaf Chintan Shibira 2026, was chaired by Principal Secretary, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma at Aranya Bhawan.

Officials discussed ways to strengthen Kendu Leaf operations and explore new projects that can generate employment for forest-dependent communities across the state. Emphasis was also laid on large-scale training and skill development initiatives to improve field-level performance and support sustainable livelihoods.

A presentation was also made highlighting the achievements and socio-economic impact of Kendu Leaf operations in Odisha, particularly its role in rural income generation and beneficiary welfare.

Field officers from different divisions shared their experiences and best practices to improve collection, processing, and overall management of Kendu Leaf operations.

During the event, 18 field staff members were felicitated for their performance and contribution to the sector.

Senior forest officials, including the PCCF & HoFF, PCCF (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, and PCCF (Kendu Leaf), attended the meeting and encouraged staff to focus on improving both quality and output in the upcoming season.

Officials said that better performance in Kendu Leaf operations would help increase revenue and further strengthen welfare measures for workers and dependent communities.

The meeting concluded with discussions on improving operational efficiency and enhancing benefits for stakeholders involved in Kendu Leaf collection and management.
