Bhubaneswar, March 24: The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) is set to announce the revised electricity tariffs for the 2025-26 financial year. This decision comes after a public hearing on February 17, where various stakeholders, including power distribution companies and consumer rights groups, presented their views.
OERC Chairman Sanjay Raut confirmed that the commission has carefully reviewed all relevant data before finalizing the new tariff structure. However, he refrained from commenting on the likelihood of a price hike.
As the announcement draws closer, protests have already erupted in the state. On Friday, the Odisha Electricity Consumers’ Association held a demonstration in Bhubaneswar, voicing their concerns over the potential tariff increase by Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPCODL). Protesters, fearing higher bills, even attempted to march towards the state assembly.
The upcoming tariff revision has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning its impact on consumers across the state.
