Odisha to Launch Census on January 1, 2025; Relief Card to be Upgraded to Rights Card
Bhubaneswar, Nov 9: Odisha will begin its population census on January 1, 2025, as announced by Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari. He confirmed that all preparations are in place and that pending tasks will be completed soon.
The minister also revealed a major change to the state’s Relief Card system. The existing system will be replaced by a “Rights Card”, which will provide citizens with legal entitlements rather than being a charitable gesture. This shift will ensure that beneficiaries receive benefits as a matter of right, making the system more formal and legally recognized.
The national census, originally planned for 2021 but delayed due to the pandemic, is now set to take place in 2025, with Odisha playing a key role in the process.
