Nabarangpur, June 20: {UDN}:: A district-level tabletop exercise was conducted today at the Mission Shakti Conference Hall under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain.
During the meeting, it was informed that district-level tabletop exercises were held in the morning, while similar exercises were conducted at the block and urban local body levels in the afternoon. It was also announced that mock drills will be organized on June 19, 2026, at all cyclone shelters across the district.
The meeting focused on preparedness measures to protect lives and property from sudden natural disasters such as floods and cyclones and to achieve the objective of “Zero Casualty.” Various aspects of disaster preparedness and response were discussed in detail.
District Collector Dr. Swain directed all departments to prepare contingency plans for managing potential natural disasters. He also instructed that a nodal officer be appointed in every Panchayat Samiti and concerned department for effective disaster management.
Special emphasis was laid on:
Ensuring timely and effective dissemination of warning messages to people in vulnerable areas.
Identification of flood-prone and inundation zones.
Safety of students in schools and Anganwadi centres.
Taking precautionary measures regarding large trees and boundary walls in educational institutions during cyclones and heavy rains.
Ensuring prompt rescue and relief operations.
Installing and maintaining caution boards near deep dams, rivers, and ponds to prevent accidents while bathing.
