Science City to Come Up Near Nandankanan in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, June 10: In a major step to boost interest in science among students and the general public, the Odisha government has decided to establish a Science City in Bhubaneswar. The proposed project will be developed over 100 acres of land near Nandankanan.

Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra confirmed that the land has already been identified, and the foundation stone will be laid soon. The decision has been approved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

Speaking at the ‘NextGen Summit 2025’ organized by Viksit Odisha Trust, Minister Patra highlighted the need for such a center in Odisha, drawing inspiration from Science Cities in Kolkata and Ahmedabad. He said the project will play a vital role in making science more engaging and accessible.

The minister also announced that ₹1,113 crore has been approved for the development of the biotechnology sector in the state.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Dr. Prabodh Mohanty, FM University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, and other notable figures from the fields of science and industry.
