State-Level Review Meeting of District Fisheries Officers Conducted in Bhubaneswar to Strengthen Fisheries Development

Bhubaneswar, Sept 18 [UDN}: A review meeting involving District Chief Fisheries Officers from across Odisha was held at the Krushi Bhawan Auditorium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday to assess the progress of various fisheries development programmes and discuss measures to further strengthen the fisheries sector in the state.

The meeting reviewed the implementation and progress of several major government schemes, including MMKY, PMMSY, PM-MKSSY, MKUY and OIIPCRA. Detailed discussions were held on the status of these programmes, their implementation at the district level and steps required to ensure that the intended benefits reach fish farmers, fishermen and other stakeholders associated with the fisheries sector.

The meeting also focused on strengthening fisheries cooperative societies, which play an important role in supporting fishermen and fish farmers and facilitating fisheries-related activities at the grassroots level. Officials reviewed the functioning of these cooperative institutions and discussed measures to improve their effectiveness and outreach.

The progress of major fisheries infrastructure projects was another key issue discussed during the meeting. District-wise progress was reviewed, with emphasis on timely implementation, effective utilisation of resources and strengthening infrastructure required for sustainable growth of fisheries-related activities.

The status and functioning of government fisheries farms were also examined. Officials discussed the operational condition of these farms and measures required to improve their productivity and ensure better utilisation of available facilities.

The meeting further deliberated on the future course of action for strengthening the fisheries sector, with emphasis on effective implementation of schemes, better coordination among field-level officials and improved delivery of government programmes.

The review meeting was chaired by Prem Chandra Chaudhary, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department. Director of Fisheries Siddhartha Das, District Chief Fisheries Officers and senior officials of the department attended the meeting.

The discussions were aimed at assessing ongoing initiatives and identifying further measures to promote fisheries development, strengthen supporting infrastructure and improve the overall implementation of government programmes across Odisha.
